Event Chalkboard

I love a decorative chalkboard. Sounds strange maybe, but it is such a simple idea that can be so effective at a wedding or an event. So how would you use a chalkboard at your event? Well, where do I start? There are SO many places a chalkboard can be used. Probably the two main purposes are a 'Welcome board' (saying thanks for coming to X and X's wedding/party), or a 'Menu' (showing what we are eating). People also use them to have do a schedule of events/timings for the day, to have signs for games, the bar, flips flops (for dancing) and to be honest, pretty much anything you want to communicate to your guests.

Through the chalkboard you can personalise your Wedding, use language you want to use, add your personality to it. They also can be visually stunning and are very easy to do. If you are wondering where to get a chalkboard from, you can either hire one from us, or create one of your own. They are REALLY easy to do. Hobby craft, The Range and ebay will all sell blackboard paint. You then just need to find a board, with or without frame to paint. I usually use a charity shop picture with a nice frame. If you don't have one The Range sells really good vintage looking frames very reasonably priced which are perfect. You can also (like me) go round charity shops, or car boot sales which can be just as good.

Once you have painted up your chalk board you will need to decide what is going on it. First of all you have to decide it's purpose, is it a 'Menu', a 'Welcome board', a 'Schedule of Events'? You then need to decide the design. If you are vaguely artistic you can get away with doing the board yourself. You will need a chalk pen (available from Hobby Craft) or ebay and a clear idea/mock up of what you are drawing. My best tip with a chalkboard is if you aren't artistic, THEN DELEGATE! We all have an artistic friend, or a friend with an artistic friend and that way you know you will get a good result. Otherwise you could look at stenciling, again you can get these online. Once you have your finished chalkboard it will be both decorative and informative! A great addition to your wedding/event décor.
